About Nebbiolo Notes
Nebbiolo Notes was born out of my deep passion for what, in my opinion, is the world's most magical grape varietal. Having so many varied expressions dependent on where it is grown, Nebbiolo has an incredible propensity to express an array of unique terroirs. While studying for the Master Sommelier Exam, I realized how few resources there were on Italian wine, specifically in English, and particularly on lesser-known regions including Alto Piemonte and Valle d'Aosta.
This is where Nebbiolo Notes comes in. I created this site as a resource for those wanting to learn more about all of the regions where Nebbiolo is grown, not just Barolo or Barbaresco. (Not to take anything away from the Langhe - some of my favorite wines come from Barolo and Barbaresco! But I believe these other regions also deserve attention.)
I spend my time between Aspen and Piedmont, researching these wine regions firsthand. Please join me in becoming part of the wine revolution that these magical terroirs of Nebbiolo are currently undergoing!
About Maddy Jimerson
I am an Advanced-Level Sommelier through the Court of Master Sommeliers and a self-certified Italian wine specialist. I received my Bachelor's degree at Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration, where I studied Beverage Management and minored in Italian. During this time I studied abroad in Bologna, where while sipping on red bubbly in Piazza Maggiore, my love for Italian wine was born.
I began my wine career as a Sales Representative for Lyra Wine, an importer of artisanal Italian wines in California. I went on to become the San Francisco Market Manager for Minerality Wines, representing both Roberto Voerzio and Bibi Graetz. In 2016 I moved to Aspen, Colorado to pursue my wine career in a more scenic setting - in the backdrop of my beloved mountains.

For the 2019 harvest, I interned at Proprietà Sperino in Lessona. I was overcome by the history that surrounded me and the incredibly real, rich, raw, (abandoned yes), magnificent terroir.
In the Spring of 2021, after years of back and forth travel between Italy and Aspen, I decided to finally make the move. I purchased a house in the quaint Medieval town of Masserano, in Alto Piemonte, packed up my skis and bike, and embarked on my next Italian adventure.
Alto Piemonte: the past, present & future
I am currently writing a book on Alto Piemonte and its diverse wine regions. In pursuit of this venture, as well as providing content for Nebbiolo Notes, I spend my days frolicking through vineyards, speaking firsthand with producers, studying soils, shuffling through archives in the libraries of Turin and getting lost on winding backroads, all in pursuit of decoding the magic of this incredible region so that I can share it with you.
